2005 Cheerleading/Dance Tournament Rules

1.          Squads are limited to five members or more. All members must be deaf or hard of hearing. One coach will be permitted to cue the team members from the specified area in the front.

2.          Team members will perform at least one dance, cheer, AND/OR sideline chant. Time Limit 2-3 minutes.

3.          Time limit violations:

1 - 5 seconds overtime

1 point deduction

6 - 10 seconds overtime

3 points deduction

11 or more seconds overtime

5 points deduction

 

 

4.          For safety; stunts, tumbling and drops are prohibited. Violations will result in a 5 point deduction.

Stunt: Any mount, pyramid or toss.

Tumbling: cartwheels, round-offs, handsprings, tucks, etc. (forward and backward rolls are permitted)

Drops: knee, seat, thigh, and split drops are not permitted unless most of the weight is first borne on the hands/feet or is controlled to break the impact of the drop. Drops from and airborne position to a horizontal face-down position are not permitted.

5.          Any deductions for time violations or safety guideline violations will be subtracted from the final score; therefore, executing a clean routine is very important.

6.          Drums are allowed during timeouts, halftimes, and after baskets or free throws.  Music is allowed for all or part of each routine.

7.          Organized, formal entrances that involve organized cheers or run-ons with jumps, tumbling, or stunts are prohibited.  Cheerleaders, dancers and mascots should enter the performance area in a timely fashion.

8.          Timing will begin with the first organized word, movement, or note of music by the team or individual after they are officially announced.

9.          Timing will end with the last organized word, movement, or note of music by the team or individual. Teams or individuals must exit the performance area immediately following the routine.

10.     Soft-soled tennis shoes must be worn while competing; no jazz shoes and/or boots will be allowed.

11.     Squad must have school or mascot name/abbreviation displayed somewhere on each members uniform.

12.     Jewelry of any kind is prohibited. This includes earrings, nose, tongue and belly button rings, necklaces and pins on uniforms.

13.     Only the following props are allowed: banners, megaphones, pom poms, and signs.

14.     Judges for the competition will be qualified, experienced judges with a thorough knowledge and background in high school and/or collegiate cheerleading, gymnastics, and/or dance.

15.     Deductions/penalties are assessed at the sole discretion of the judges. All judges’ decisions are final.

16.     Ties will not be broken. Tying teams will share the title.

 

The last to sign up will be the first to perform. ;o)

 

Each competing team will bring one experienced judge & will not be allowed to vote for their own team.
